For my upcoming show I will be displaying work of all different sizes. I prefer to work very large, but the space I am showing in is rather small. I decided to have 1 or 2 large pieces, and the rest smaller. The two cropped images are 10 x 10 inches (the full piece), and the face is very small for me, it is about 5 x 5 inches. This is one face in a series of 4. I think having a variety of sizes is a good way to go with this show.

Time really flies by, I have been getting ready for "In Parallel". A lot is done, but there is still so much to do. I ordered 1,000 postcards for the show. Jennifer, Jourdon, and I all decided we should do a little something to the postcard to make it a little more interesting. So, I gold lettered 500 postcards (maybe a little over).

December has been quite a busy month for me. I just sent off my completed grad school applications, and finished this little guy (actually bigger guy...about 4 feet tall).

The next 3 months are going to be the busiest I have been in a very long time. I am getting ready for a two person show at Jennifer Norback Fine Art Gallery in March (with good friend and artist Jourdon Gullet) and I want to have quite a few new pieces for this show. I have been working very hard on the first 3 pieces. Here is a sneak peak of two of the pieces that are done. Both pieces are cropped. I want the show to be the first time the pieces are seen, so the next few blog posts will have cropped images of the final pieces. I am trying many new techniques, and am no longer using plastic as many of my old paintings have had. I am experimenting with alternation of my papers surface as well. Its hard to say where the experimentation and new techniques will take me, but I am anxious for the outcome. I will explain the concept of the first few paintings in a later post.

Yesterday was the opening of a group show that I was fortune enough to be a part of. This group show was held at Jennifer Norback Fine Art Gallery and featured works by Misha Goro and Barry Wolf. Misha Goro is a printmaker, and Barry Wolf a photographer. Misha Goro is an artist I have admired for quite some time. I remember telling myself years ago that it would be so fantastic to show a piece of work with Misha one day, and I am fortunate enough to be able to do so. I want to thank everyone that came out to support me, it was a great turn out. Here are some pictures from the show, enjoy!

This March at Jennifer Norback Fine Art I will be involved in a two person show with another artist that I truly admire, Jourdon Gullet. I am very excited about this show, and the series I am currently working on. Stay tuned :)

Grapes!

Recently the restaurant Graham Elliot (where I work) redid their menus. All of my employees know I am a painter and my manager asked if I would paint grapes for beverage menus. Here they are!

Trying to make the best of my time...

So all of us artists know after graduation we need the "day job" to survive. It takes a while for most of us to establish ourselves in the art world. Of course there are a handful of artists who sell their work very well right out of college. Bless their hearts...but we can't all be like them. I am extremely grateful that sometimes at my day job, I can also do what I love. This is something I do not take for granted.

Sometimes the chefs bring me pancakes for breakfast! Chef Brian and Chef Jacob are sweethearts.

And thank you to Jeffery! He is a server at the restaurant and he brings me cupcakes and mini cakes! Little treats can turn an okay day into a wonderful one :)

Window Display!

Recently the American Academy of Art (the college I received my BFA from) has put up a new window display. I was very honored to see that my work titled "Faces" was chosen for the BFA show flyer as well as the image chosen in the current window display.

If you are in the Chicago check out the American Academy of Art window display on Van Buren St, just before Michigan Ave. The American Academy of Art is located at 332 South Michigan Ave.

Here is the most recent painting I am working on. I am entering this into a portrait show in hopes of being accepted. The finished painting will be 45 or 50 (I have not decided yet) paintings. The paintings are each about 4" x 3.5" and all are images of friends and friends of friends. They are also all women in my age range. Together they will be installed as one large piece. It is nice to work small every now and then. And painting this size is easy to transport and I can paint while I am commuting to work!

About 36 paintings. I love how they look layered on top of one another.

I love getting used things of all kinds. I would rather get used gifts then new gifts any day. My friend Liz from work handed down a ring to me that she no longer had use for. In return I painted her a portrait of one of her favorite artists Erykah Badu.

Liz sent me this photo while she was at the frame shop picking out a home for the painting.

Along with building up my portfolio and painting commissions for clients, I also started creating my own hair accessories, rings, and earrings. All creations are made from adorable vintage fabrics! Best of Show!

Earlier this summer my piece titled "Ridge Road" was accepted into the "7th Annual Rites of Passage" exhibition at the beautiful Manifest Gallery. 162 artists representing 88 different college and university art programs submitted 381 works for consideration. The exhibit featured 13 works by 12 artists representing 11 different academic institutions. It was an honor to be chosen to be exhibited in this show as well as winning the "Best of Show" award.

Along with this great show Manifest created a beautiful catalog to go along with the exhibition.
